What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapeutic therapy that encourages the body to heal itself. If you have

been ill or injured, or under stress, or if you are suffering from a chronic condition, your body will be in a

state of imbalance. Vital energy pathways will be blocked. In short your body will be unable to function

efficiently. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

Where does Reflexology come from?

Modern Reflexology is an art and science that was created by medical doctors in the United States in the early 1900's. Some believe that Reflexology has roots back 5000 years to ancient Egypt, working with the hands and feet has been a form of healing since ancient time.

Reflexology has been shown to be an effective treatment for the following:

arthritis, digestive disorders, foot pain, hormonal imbalance / PMS, infertility, low back pain, migraines,

neck and shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, sleep disorders, sports injuries, stress related conditions, and many more...

It helps the body's natural relaxation response, alleviate anxiety and by working on points directly connected to the female reproductive system can help create optimum conditions for pregnancy to occur. It can also be used prior to and in conjunction with fertility treatments such as IVF.

Reflexology is a wonderful treatment to have during pregnancy and can help with any associated symptoms such as tiredness, nausea, back strain, and hypertension. It can reduce any anxiety or stress so that you can enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest and your baby can benefit too.

How does it work?

Congestion or tension in a particular part of the body is mirrored in congestion or tension in a particular place in the foot. For example, a winter cold may produce symptoms such as a headache, sore throat, earache and even a stiff neck. By applying pressure to the corresponding zones on the feet in a systematic way, you will be able to relieve these painful and irritating symptoms. This will work whether the problem is a cold, congestion, backache, digestive ailment, poor circulation, insomnia or depression. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet. By working on these areas of the feet, the reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. The way the therapy is applied and the effect it will have on the body are unique to each individual client. Normally, tension in the body will ease and circulation and elimination will improve.

The Goal:

The goal of reflexology is to re-educate, re-pattern and re-condition the nerves through the neutral/electrical system of the body.

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

Since Reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment. Reflexology acts as a complement to conventional medical diagnosis and treatment. It may help with a wide range of both acute and chronic conditions, and is suitable for children and adults. However, if you have any of the following conditions, you should speak to your medical doctor before booking an appointment: severe athlete's foot, varicose veins in the feet, pitted edema, broken bones of the foot or ankle, infections, painful ingrown toenails/corns, gout, warts, recent surgery, or 1st tri-mester of pregnancy.

What happens during a Reflexology session?

Your first visit will begin with a consultation to discuss any health issues you may have, or areas that you would like to address and then a quick foot soak to prepare the foot for relaxation. During the fully clothed session any discomfort you may feel will be fleeting, and might be an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of your body. For the most part, you will find the sensation pleasant and soothing. Many clients actually fall asleep during session. After reflexology the body feels charged.
